Italian Food Example Italian Food â" Assignment Example > GnocchiThe main ingredients for the preparation of Gnocchi includes potatoes, semolina, wheat flour, bread crumbs, eggs and cheese (Guarrera Savo, 2016). In Italy, it is considered as an alternative for pasta. The preparation involves boiling the potatoes for at least 45 minutes before peeling it and passing the vegetable mill. Wells can then be made at the center of the potatoes and flour sprinkled over it. Egg and salt can then be placed in the center of the well and stirred. Dough can then be kneaded until gentle balls that are dry to touch are formed. The dough can then be cut into three quarter inch diameter dowels and cheese can be added. The pieces can then be dropped into boiling water and cooked until it floats. Once it has floated, it can be removed and the water drained. Tossing with a half cup of canola oil can be done and stored in a refrigerator for up to 48 hours when it is ready to serve. In Italy, this food originated in Northern region. In the northern region th e specialty is mainly Gnocchi and other forms of food including pasta. PestoThe ingredients for the preparation of pesto include basil, garlic, olive oil, grated hard cheese and pine nuts. It is traditionally prepared in a marble mortar together with a wooden pestle. The garlic and pine nuts are placed in the mortar before being reduced into a cream. Basil leaves which are washed and dried are then ground to form a creamy consistency and coarse salt added. A mix of parmigiano and pecorino is then added. An extra virgin olive oil can then be added which is for incorporating the cheese. Two types of cheese may be used during the preparation process. This includes the cheese that has been made from sheepâs milk or parmesan cheese. Once the preparation is complete, it can be stored in a refrigerator where it can be frozen and consumed later. This type of food originates from Genoa which is the capital city of Liguria in Northern Italy (Counihan Van Esterik, 2012). Gnocchi and pasta are among the food that is commonly consumed in this region. Pesto is also common in other parts of Italy where it is commonly consumed. Polenta al burroIngredients for the preparation of polenta al burro include polenta, butter and salt. Polenta is mainly comprised of finely ground maize meal. The first step in the preparation involves boiling water and adding teaspoonfuls of polenta until the water is boiled. When the water is fully boiled, polenta can be constantly sprinkled and stirred to make sure that there are no lumps. In case of any lumps, the spoon can be used to press it on the side of the pot. After the addition of all the polenta, the heat can be reduced gently to allow it to simmer for about 45 minutes. This should continue until a crust is formed at the bottom of the pot. This will lead to the polenta lifting away which is an indication that it is ready. Butter can then be stirred and melted through the use of moderate heat. The cooked polenta can then be sliced an d the butter sprinkled. In some instances, cheese can also be sprinkled on it. The meal can then be served while it is hot. This type of food originated from Veneto in the Northern part of Italy (Guarrera Savo, 2016). Other meals that are common at the region include cheese, stockfish, sea food and meat dishes.

Though most of these stories are very serious, many do not see them as sophisticated literature. True as this is, his works are still great and reflect much of the attitude and culture of his time. Behind his fables, Ovid was a fantastic storyteller and a master at capturing the spirit of the ancient times as well as portraying his own life through his work. Like many poets of that time, Ovid's father wished him to be a lawyer. His father sent him from his home in Sulmo, where he was born, to Athens to obtain a legal degree and study rhetoric. "Indeed rhetoric was the core of Roman education in Ovid's time, as it had been for almost a century before his birth as it was for centuries after his death" (Luce 785). When his formal training was complete, Ovid studied philosophy. Ovid then came home to start a serious career. "It did not work. Fathers of poets seem to have a penchant for trying to turn their male offspring into lawyers, doctors, or engineers. Usually this stratagem is effective because most sons are not poets. Most fathers confronted with the problem of a versifying son, therefore, turn out to be right; Ovid's father turned out to be wrong" (Luce 785). Ovid sincerely attempted to satisfy the demands of his father, but failed horribly. He abandoned his law studies and he drifted off to book merchants and poetry readings. He also married, but swiftly divorced, the woman his father had chosen for him. He was clearly strong-minded and independent. Ovid became more interested with the world of poetry. He also became acquainted with most of the leading poets of the time. Thus, at approximately at the age of twenty, Ovid launched into his career as poet. Up to this point, the poet's life was basically ho-hum. "Until the catastrophe in A.D. 8, when Augustus exiled him to Tomis on the Black Sea, Ovid's life appears to have been uneventful" (Luce 785). In the next years of his life, he married a total of three times. "?This might suggest domestic turmoil of an unusual sort; but given social fragmentation of his time, even this apparent disorder may have been merely ordinary. In any case, the third and final marriage seems to have been an extraordinary one, and Ovid's devotion to the wife he left in Rome when he went to Tomis is manifest to her in his final volumes" (Luce 785). Soon in Ovid's life appeared an adversary, though. Augustus Caesar, the grand nephew to Julius Caesar, took the empirical throne. Augustus was bent on reforming Rome in a time of spiritual freedom. He saw the "free love" attitude of Ovid's time as wrong and demeaning to the family. He soon made laws against certain acts between two unmarried people. At this point Ovid was just discovering and enjoying this time of freedom. "While Augustus was devoting himself to the reform of a social order that nearly a hundred years of cival war had left in ruins, Ovid devoted himself to the refinement of his craft and of his observations of Roman high society and politics" (Luce 786). The difference between the two's mind set is described by T. James Luce as "?The confrontation between two irreconcilable visions of human life, the collisions of political necessity with poetic freedom, of pragmatic with a humanism that is grounded in religious intuitions, of the contingencies of history with moral imagination" (Luce 788). Ovid found himself exiled to Tomis from Rome. The exact circumstances of this exile are unknown, for even Ovid himself shrouds them in mystery. Divine Wind essays The Kamikaze Special Attack Corps was destined to become not only the most famous of Japans suicide weapons but also the most effective (1.WW 2 Kamikazes, Earle Rice Jr. 12). The Kamikaze method of attack was first developed and used to fight the Americans in the war for the Pacific in 1944. These Divine Wind attackers would swoop out of the sky and sacrifice themselves for their country. The Kamikaze attack method was a very affective weapon in the Battles for the Pacific in WW 2. One way that these suicidal bombers were affective was that they had no fear of death; it was better to be someone who dies very bravely than someone who lived to surrender. Fighting to the death regardless of the odds and chances of success was a deeply embodied tradition in Japan (2. Thunder Gods: The Kamikaze Pilots Tell Their Story, Boye De Mente). It is obvious that if you step onto a battlefield with a fearless attitude, that you have a definite advantage over the competition. Do not fear to die for the cause of everlasting justice. Do not stay alive in dishonor (New orders issued by General Hideki Tojo on Jan.3 1941). Once again this demonstrates the nature of the Japanese resolve. They are being ordered to be ready to die to for the sake of justice and to maintain order to their family. The Kamikaze was one of the most effective killing tactics in the Second World War. Attackers flying at a low altitude were instructed to climb quickly to about fifteen-hundred feet upon sighting their target before commencing a steep dive on target...to ensure a steep downward plunge for maximum effectiveness (1. 65). Kamikazes were not only pilots with a death wish; they were trained to fly the most effective route because it could cause the most damage. In fact, only some of the most skilled pilots could do it.
